The motet was premiered by Mauersberger on 4 August 1945 in the burned out Kreuzkirche in Dresden. The a cappella work was created on Good Friday and Saturday in 1945. Background is the stressful experiences during the war and the devastating attack on Dresden.
This funeral motet for four- to seven-part mixed choir a cappella is based on the lamentations Jeremiae, which commemorated the destruction of Jerusalem and the Temple of 586 BC. To complain.
