It can also be placed on a stand. Unlike steel tongue drums with hammers, the sound is softer and warmer. Depending on the musician's technique, the sound of the handpan may be similar to a harp. an ancient bell or a tuned steel tongue drum. Each sound field has several overtone resonance zones around the basic sound. The most basic way to play a handpan is to alternate play with the fingers of both hands. At the beginning of the practice you may not be able to strike a sound, or the strike sound is relatively dry. In this case, you need to adjust the strength of your fingers when you strike and let your arms fully relax in order to strike a flexible sound. The centre sound "DING" of the handpan can be played with different techniques.
