Pulcinella is a Ballet commissioned by Diaghilev and first performed in 1920. It was based around themes and melodies from Pergolesi, but with modern harmonies and rhythms, and marked the start of the composer’s neoclassical period. Originally scored for 3 solo singers and a chamber orchestra, it has been transcribed here for Voices and Piano, ideal for either rehearsal or private study. Igor Stravinsky (1882-1971) was born and brought up in Saint Petersburg, before settling first in Paris and finally in America. Despite his classical musical education, he is best remembered as one of the main proponents of serialism.
