The two clarinet sonatas, opus 120 composed in 1894 and first performed privately by Brahms and the superb clarinetist Richard M‚¬Å¡¬ªhlfeld in November of that year in the presence of Clara Schumann and Joseph Joachim, constitute the closing strains of Brahms? instrumental creation. The viola version of these sonatas appears in an edition of its own
