Description

The composer drafted the quartet op. 10 in 1918 while at the front in Alsace, yet it shows not the slightest influence of the terrible events of the war. The three-movement work is full of youthful exuberance and reflects Hindemith's new compositional techniques. His mastery and imagination in the use of the instruments demonstrate that he was already thoroughly familiar with the string quartet genre.
