"Detto II" for violoncello and chamber ensemble was created in 1972 for the Russian cellist Natalia Schachovskaya. The Italian word "Detto" ("the saying") in the title of the one-movement work refers to the narrative character of the music. The particular expressivity of the work is essentially determined by the quarter-tone glissandi of the solo instrument. In the course of the composition, there is a development from the first meditative statics to a dramatically impulsive middle part. Finally, the work resounds in contemplative calm. This concept corresponds to the idea of ??a gradual expansion of the melodic steps in the solo violoncello from quarter-notes to several octaves and back again to quarter-notes. Such a compositional system lends the work a wave-like dynamic. "Detto II" is also characterized by a colorful use of the richly equipped drum kit. Particularly interesting is the sonorous solution of the Coda, in which the violincello theme gradually fades away to ppp-objections of flute, celesta, bells, crotali, and high strings almost inaudibly.
