Much has been puzzled about the time when Franz Schubert (1797 - 1828) wrote the Great Symphony in C major. He probably started composing in 1825 and dedicated the symphony in 1826 to the Society of Friends of Music in Vienna, which, however, was unable to perform due to its level of difficulty. It was not until 1828 that Schubert printed them after a short revision. The characteristic of this symphony is its beginning: the first eight bars of the memorable melody are only performed by two horns - a sound that was previously untypical for the beginning of a symphony. Another characteristic is the so-called total implementation, which means that the thematic-motivic work does not only take place in the implementation sentence, but from the beginning.
